About the Sugar Grove Historical Society
The Sugar Grove Historical Society is committed to preserving the rich heritage of Sugar Grove, Illinois—a village whose roots trace back to 1834 when early settlers Asa McDole and the Isbell brothers established a community in the area once known as “Sin-Qua-Sip,” named by the Indigenous People for the sugar maple groves that once grew here.
The Historical Society, founded by dedicated residents in 1984, is housed in the historic Bliss House Museum at 259 Main Street, Sugar Grove. Operated entirely by volunteers, the Society collects, preserves, and shares the personal accounts of our community, striving to ensure that the legacy of Sugar Grove endures for generations to come.
